After aiding various creatures in need, Kirby eventually obtains the Love-Love Stick and enters the center of the cloud known as the Hyper Zone, and defeats Dark Matter and Zero. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, a mysterious giant cloud with a single eyeball enters Pop Star's atmosphere and possesses many of its inhabitants. After being defeated, it assumes its small orb form as it faces Kirby once again. The Rainbow Drops extract it and reveal its form as a masked, robed being wielding a magical sword. Zero (ゼロ) is a giant white creature with a Kirby-sized red eye, which leads the Dark Matter. Dark Matter initially attacked Pop Star because it is jealous of Dream Land's lifestyle and seeks to recreate it into a dark world where no one can be happy. They can possess other beings, putting them under the control of Dark Matter. The Dark Matter are an intergalactic race, although one is characterized with its petal-like extensions. He follows a code of honor and usually lends Kirby a sword before they fight to be fair. He wears a navy blue cloak (The Dimensional Cape) that can transform into a set of wings, and he usually wields a special sword called the Galaxia Sword (though he gave the "Master Sword" in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror). He always wears a white-silver mask, and under it, he looks almost exactly like Kirby, though with a blue body and white eyes. Dedede often pats his belly in a jolly manner, and has many of the same abilities as Kirby himself does, such as being able to inhale objects and spit them back out with tremendous force, and the ability to suck in air and fly. A recurring motif of the series is the assumption that Dedede has performed an act which is essentially benevolent, such as sealing away the villainous Nightmare from Kirby's Adventure, which is misinterpreted as malevolent.
